The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) approved the release of PhP61.5-Million Grants-in-Aid to fund 11 projects proposed by nine (9) Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the country.

These research, development and extension (RDE) projects aim at improving the country’s food production, achieving food security, and fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development in the field of agriculture and fisheries.

Among those approved were three (3) projects submitted by Mindanao State University – General Santos. Proposals from Bataan Peninsula State University, Partido State University – Sagnay, Central Luzon State University, Bicol University, Mariano Marcos State University, Surigao del Sur State University, Catanduanes State University, and Western Philippines University will also be funded.

A total of 109 concept notes were received by CHED on September 2016 from HEIs considered as National Universities and Colleges of Agricultures (NUCAFs) and Provincial Institutes of Agricultures and Fisheries (PIAFs). There are still proposals that are being processed and evaluated by the Commission.
