Starting Tuesday, April 23, 2019, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) will hold several activities to commemorate its 25th founding anniversary. Focusing on this year’s theme, ”Celebrating 25 Years towards Access, Equity, and Global Excellence in Higher Education,” the programs and initiatives of the Commission’s Central Offices and Regional Offices will be a venue for CHED to showcase its accomplishments in a span of more than two decades.

An attached agency to the Office of the President, CHED was created on May 18, 1994 through the passage of Republic Act No. 7722, or the Higher Education Act. It was part of a broad agenda of reforms on the country’s education system outlined by the Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM) in 1992. CHED’s standing mission and vision is to catalyze a Philippine higher education system that is locally responsive and globally competitive, and serves as a force for lifelong learning, innovation, and social and cultural
transformation.

“On its 25th founding anniversary, CHED will continue to fulfill its mandate and realize President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s promise of sustainable human development. We are inviting all higher education stakeholders to join us in our month-long celebration, and be one with CHED in pushing for Access, Equity, and Global Excellence in Higher Education,” said CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III.

Activities at the CHED Central Office in Quezon City will kick-off on April 23 with an opening ceremony that will include “Unity Walk” and “Pandesalan at Kapehan” that will be participated by CHED employees.

Other activities lined-up across the month of April and May are the following:

∙ Public Orientation on Random Drug Testing in Higher Education Institutions
