Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Officer-in-Charge Commissioner Popoy De Vera endorsed the ASEANnale 2018, a biennial ASEAN “festival of ideas in multi-modal and multi-textual spaces” that will be held at the Asian Center, UP Diliman in Quezon City on February 28 until March 2.

In a memorandum signed by De Vera on January 25, he informed all public and private higher education institutions that the Commission recommends the participation of students and faculty in this groundbreaking celebration of the ASEAN Spirit initiated by CHED, University of the Philippines System, UP Open University, UP Diliman Asian Center, UP College of Mass Communication, and TVUP.

This year’s ASEANnale carries the theme “Capturing the spirit of ASEAN in the Digital Times” which highlights the creativity and research capabilities of students and faculty from ASEAN member states. The event will feature the 1st Film and Multimedia Competition and Exhibition and 2nd International Symposium on ASEAN Studies.

CHED’s support to ASEANnale 2018 is one of the Commission’s way of fostering excellence in Multimedia Arts among Philippine colleges and universities through harmonization of knowledge and expertise with the international standards. This joint endeavor is further aligned with the ASEAN Post-2015 Vision on Education focused on promoting a people-centered Community with an enhanced awareness of ASEAN. Last year, CHED issued Memorandum Order No. 20, Series of 2017, setting the Policies, Standards and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Multimedia Arts Programs in the country that implements the “shift to learning competency-based standards/outcomes-based education” of the said program.
