Quezon City — Former University of the Philippines professor and veteran health science researcher Dr. Lilian A. de las Llagas and former University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) president Dr. Perfecto A. Alibin were recently appointed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as Commissioners of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Commissioner De Las Llagas was appointed on August 9, 2017. Previously, she held the position of Secretary of the University of the Philippines – Manila and of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines System.

As an accomplished health science professor and researcher, Commissioner De Las Llagas’ areas of expertise include Tropical Medicine, Health Law, and Medical Entomology, particularly on Vector Control or Integrated Vector Control Management (IVC/IVM) of vector-borne diseases. Her works have been published in distinguished local and international journals.

Commissioner Alibin, former USeP president and long-time professor of educational management and public administration, was appointed on August 19, 2017.

Dr. Alibin rose from the ranks at USeP, from professor to dean of the College of Education, College of Technician Education and Technology, then as dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, and Director of Mindanao Center for Technical Education and Staff Development. Before he became USeP president, he held the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The two Commissioners were formally welcomed by CHED Chairperson Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan along with other CHED officials and employees during the September 4 flag raising ceremonies.

With the completion of the Commission En Banc, CHED vows to push for the educational reforms of the Duterte administration that will ensure career and life choices and chances to students and faculty by enhancing the quality and access to higher education and training programs.

Both Commissioners terms will end on July 21, 2021.
